Easy Autumn Flower Arrangement using Sedum Flowers, Garden Greenery and Oasis

This how to video shows how to use common garden plants to make a simple table centrepiece arrangement for Autumn. This basic flower arrangement cost me £1 ($1.30) to make as I only had to buy the wet oasis, and it’s made with seasonal flowers from the garden. Of course, you can also use flowers and greenery bought in a shop.

Materials needed:

- wet oasis (half a block);

- bowl to hold oasis – a kitchen bowl is fine, or recycled plastic container;

- conifer cuttings for greenery (approx. 20 small clippings);

- shrub cuttings of brachyglottis ‘sunshine’ for filler (approx. 25, preferably with a woody stem that can be pushed into the oasis),

- flowers called sedum autumn joy (or use what you have access to),

- black grass called mondo;

- optional: wire for the black grass (if no wire, try using tape).

Easy steps...

1. Cut your garden plants, remove lower leaves and place in a bucket filled with water to hydrate the plants. (You can use gloves to handle & cut plants - some people have sensitive skin!)

2. Soak your flower arranging oasis in a bucket or large bowl for 5 minutes. Place it into a container to make your arrangement, which won't leak water.

3. First, add greenery like clippings from conifers, or ivy to hide the oasis and container. Angle your greenery, rather than placing straight.

4. Add seasonal flowers like red sedum.

5. Add another plant to fill in, such as silver ragwort, stachys, or daisy bush.

6. Add folded over black grass & a few wisps to one side, or perhaps some seed heads.

Time to cut & prep plants: 20 minutes.

Time to make: 20 minutes.

Should last 2-3 weeks if watered, and kept in a coolish room.
